Estelle Garcia Blanco (b. 1995) lives and works Brussels (BE). She is a textile artist working with feathers and reclaimed materials. She holds an MFA in Textile Design from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Brussels (2022) and trained as a featherworker at Maison Lemarié, part of Chanel’s Métiers d’Art in Paris.
Killing two birds with one shot
By recovering secondhand pillows, Estelle Garcia Blanco finds a material rich in meaning : recycled waste and an intimate symbolic object. Through the use of overcycled pillows, it questions our intimate consciousness linked to a daily object. What is the relationship between the pillow and its feathers? This gesture of opening an old pillow looks like turning the skin of a bird.
